First Horizon Bank welcomed students from Vine Middle School last week for a JA Job Shadow! Students were able to participate in job tasks and learn about the many roles within @first_horizon and what it is like to be an employee at First Horizons Bank. From teller to commercial banker to social media- students explored the company and asked questions like, “What has made you stay at First Horizons for 20 years?” And “How do I build good credit?” JA job shadow pairs students with a local company to explore after completing the JA curriculum. These experiences are imperative to help students explore pathways and careers! #865academies @knox_schools #865rocks #careerexploration #workreadiness #jaeasttennessee #juniorachievement.

‘We’re a company like no other!’Hearing that classic phrase produces an almost reflexive eye role when you’ve heard it as often as I have. The classic lip service big financial companies give to ambitious aspriring students such as myself can get repetitive to say the least. But surprisingly this was different.I had the humbling opportunity to join Young Professionals x Lloyds Banking Group on a virtual insight program earlier this week. Being fascinated by what esteemed banks do within our current economic climate - I was intrigued by this event. It was hosted by a panel of a range of LBG’s employees, ranging from recruiters informing us about how to stand out to current apprentices giving us a realistic insight to the bank’s proactive nature to upskilling. I was pleasantly surprised in hearing about LBG could offer me as a prospect that could enroll in the near future. What stood out the most to me was the culture of support that has been fostered throughout. Hearing about the plethora of networks on offer showcased LBG’s dedication to their staff - demonstrating an enforced people culture. This newfound understanding led me to connect with members of that same panel. We had insightful discussions of what LBG could offer as a post-18 student as well as the ideal candidate that they would want to employ full time. Some words of advice, you don’t have to be perfect!Networks with current employees helps to not only break down the barriers we would subconsciously build between eachother, but helps to find a potential buddy willing to support you on your journey. I’m a big advocator for us as students to put ourselves out there and build relationships with current professionals, and I can confidently say I’m in a much stronger, more relaxed, more understanding position than I was less than a week ago since I’ve had these discussions. To conclude, a huge thank you to Young Professionals for hosting such a successful and educational event. Big appreciation going out to those on that same panel such as Philip Hocking and Grainne Longman CMgr FCMI for being so happy to share their experiences and expertise - inspire future applicants such as myself.
