Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • It only takes 15 minutes and you’re cookie dough craving is conquered!
  • The instructions on how to “heat treat” flour are included below so you can avoid consuming raw flour (See why this is important below!)

Is it OK to eat edible cookie dough?

It is ok to eat edible cookie dough if you “heat treat” flour, so it can get rid of the bacteria that some flour is said to contain. This recipe also leaves out any raw egg so you don’t have to worry about E Coli. or Salmonella.

Do you have to heat flour for edible cookie dough?

You don’t have to but it is BEST to use heat-treated flour to make your edible cookie dough safer to eat.

How do you heat treat flour?

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Evenly spread the flour on it.
  • Place the flour in the oven and bake for about 8 minutes.
  • You don’t want the flour to brown, but you do want it to reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees.
  • When it’s ready, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool completely.

How to make edible cookie dough

You’ll want to start by heat treating the flour (with the instructions above).

In a large bowl, add butter. Using a hand mixer beat it until smooth.

Next, add the Vanilla Extract, Dark Brown Sugar, and White Sugar.

Mix that until it’s thick, smooth, and fluffy.

Gradually, add in flour a little at a time. Once all of the flour is mixed it should have an almost crumbly appearance.

Now add the milk. Mixing again with hand mixer until “dough” is smooth all the way through.

Tips for Making This Recipe

  • If the flour seems chunky at all or stuck together use a sifter before mixing it with the other ingredients.
  • If you only have salted butter on hand you can make it with that, it will just be a little saltier (as expected) but still delicious!
  • This is a great base dough so if you’re feeling creative try mixing in other toppings as well. So many possibilities. See the list above of our favorite ideas!
  • Do not attempt to bake cookie dough it will not come out like a regular cookie: it will be soupy and flat.
