US/Washington: As of Sunday, July 21, 2024, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”), a division of the US Department of Transportation, has posted a total of sixty-five (65) vehicle, tire, accessory or other automotive-related product recalls this month. Among the sixty-five (65) recalls the NHTSA announced in July comes news of the following:

Daimler Vans USA, LLC (“DVUSA”), a Sandy Springs Georgia establishmentand a subsidiary of Daimler AG of Stuttgart, Germany, has recalled an estimated 1,232 model year Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Vans.

Recall Category: Suspension – Improperly Heat-Treated Rear Axle Spring U-Bolts

NHTSA Safety Notification 24V517000 reports the Spring U-bolts for the Rear Axle may have reduced strength due to improper heat-treatment. If this defect occurs, it can cause the Rear Axle to shift out of position.

According to the NHTSA, an Axle that moves out of position can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

Proposed Remedy:
Authorized Daimler Vans USA Dealers will replace the Spring U-bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed in September 6, 2024.

Owners may contact DVUSA Customer Service toll-free at 1-877-762-8267 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) for more information. Daimler Vans’ designation for this recall is VS3FEDERB.
